The Posture of Healing: Agreeing With God for Deliverance

Recently I was seeking the Lord for the body of Christ and their sicknesses. I asked Him why so many are sick physically, emotionally, and spiritually. He replied, “It’s the attitudes they embrace.” That began a journey with Him, because attitude represents posture—our manner of thinking, feeling, and behaving that reflects the state of our soul.
Attitude as Posture
Attitude is a disposition of the parts that expresses the action and sentiments of the person.
What we embrace internally becomes what we walk out externally.
Peter and John encountered the lame man at the gate. Peter fixed his eyes on him with confidence in Jesus’ ability to heal and said:
“Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” - Acts 3:6
Peter reminded the witnesses that they killed the Prince of life, yet His name, through faith in His name, made the man strong. Perfect soundness means complete health—wholeness.
The Soul Directs the Body
Scripture teaches that our whole spirit, soul, and body are meant to be preserved blameless. The body responds to the soul. As a person thinks in their heart, that is who they are.
When we agree with a belief—true or false—we take ownership of it.
So what trials are you going through, and what do you believe about them? Do you need to rewire your processing? Write a different story? Believe differently about an event you’ve been through? If you allow the Lord to show you a better way, you may find healing for your body.
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. - 3 John 2
The Residue of Rejection
False beliefs lodge in the soul and the body aligns with them—rejection, unforgiveness, anger, bitterness, and other unhealthy emotions. Jesus said the one who is bathed, only needs to wash his feet. Our feet represent the journey.
If we don’t deal with rejection when it appears, it leaves residue that affects the rest of our walk. Rejection is an attitude rooted in trauma. From it grow branches of depression, self‑pity, selfishness, anger, and more. If the axe is not laid to the root, the tree of rejection bears much fruit.
Agreeing With God for Healing
Our attitude matters. We must agree with God for our healing and deliverance. Many believe God alone controls everything, including our health, but He asks us to believe, walk by faith, and live according to His will.
Many also believe Satan can only do what God allows, but Jesus said Satan comes to kill, steal, and destroy. God is not the one killing, stealing, or destroying.
In Acts 20, Paul preached late into the night and a young man fell and died. Satan meant to take him out, but Paul prayed and God raised him up. God is not willing that any should perish. He does not want us sick or dying. Jesus said the path is narrow because we are given a choice. Our choices bear witness to our heart attitudes. We are requested to choose life and blessings but many times we choose the opposite, death and curses.
The Work of the Cross
Sometimes years of unbelief in the healing and salvation of the cross allow a spirit of decay and death to operate in our souls and bodies. When we finally begin to believe, we may need a creative miracle or deliverance. Jesus heals in many ways. We must agree with His ways, not our own.
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. – Isa 53:5
By His stripes you were healed. - 1 Peter 2:24
The word healed means restored to wholeness—physically and spiritually. In Hebrew it means to darn, mend, repair, and stitch together what was torn.
Isaiah 61 declares that Jesus was sent to heal the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty, and open prison doors. In Him our soul wounds and physical wounds have been stitched up and made whole. Our afflictions are temporal. Our belief activates His stripes.
Yes, we live in a fallen world that is full of sickness, but we don’t have to be destroyed by it. Let us take the time to engage in faith for our wholeness.
Let's pray,
Heavenly Father, thank You for the Cross. Jesus, thank You for the blood shed on our behalf. There is no greater power than Your name, Your blood, and the covenant of God. Help me to believe in Your word to heal and that no matter what comes my way, I can always rely on Your strength to see me through. In Jesus name, Amen
