Breaking the Power of Toxic Thoughts

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. ² And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. – Rom 12:1-2

The devil comes for only one reason – to kill, destroy, and steal anything good in your life. He especially wants to consume your thoughts with tormenting thoughts. He uses words as an instrument of torture to keep your mind so occupied on who you once were that you cannot see who God says you are.

If we think about the negative things that drop into our thoughts, they eventually penetrate our hearts and bodies. We begin to move towards those thoughts, causing them to gain power over our lives.

God’s word and His truth are springs of living water meant to bring life, not death. Therefore, we must Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life. – Pro 4:23

God’s thoughts are springs of living water because they come forth from His Spirit. ‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for prosperity and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. – Jer 29:11

Holy Spirit within you will bring forth God’s thoughts. He will not speak of death to His children who walk in righteousness.

Instead of shaping our behavior (conforming) to the way of this world, we are to be transformed in the way we think. God saved us according to His mercy and not our righteous deeds. Through the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit, we begin to live as Christ would have us. This is our “reasonable service” to God.

Our ministry to God is to live as Christ.

Jesus is the Light, and He lives in light. There is no darkness or shadow or turning in Christ. His thoughts are good; they are meant for good, not evil. He desires that you think about things that build up rather than tear down.

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. - Phil 4:8

The word of God is a sledgehammer to the thought walls we build on behalf of darkness. When a sledgehammer breaks through, and the light shines forth, the entire area becomes visible.

God provides light. He says, “Come, house of Jacob, and let us walk in the light of the LORD. – Isa 2:5

But if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. – 1 Jn 1:7

Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. – Col 3:2 NASB95

Stop living like the walking dead. You are made for glory. You are made for a purpose. You are destined to create something beautiful because the Beautiful is within you. Let Him out. Let the Holy Spirit develop your thoughts. Only He can undo what was done.

Only Jesus can restore the damage. Allow Him to cultivate within you the potential that you were unaware existed.

Prayers to help you renounce toxic emotions and thoughts.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ and through Your Spirit, I request access to Your throne room where I can find mercy and grace.  Thank You for Your love and Your patience to wait on my surrender.  Your thoughts are so much greater than mine.  I want to surrender the toxic thinking that I keep getting caught up in.

I ask that Your word would restore my mind and heart to that which is pleasing to You.  Renew my mind and transform my thoughts so they align with Your will and no longer conform to this world.

In the name of Jesus, I repent for every thought that has grieved Your Spirit.

•    I repent for thoughts of jealousy, unrighteous anger, revenge, and desires to retaliate.

•    I repent for believing the lies of my past and of the enemy concerning my identity.

•    I repent for every prideful, lustful, covetous, and selfish thought that I have labored on and for allowing these thoughts to lead me into sin and away from You.

•    I repent for thinking more on the things of this world than Your Kingdom.

•   I confess my sins tonight that have led me into captivity, and I forgive my ancestors for their sins and the effects their sin has had on my life.

•    In the name of Jesus Christ, I break any agreements I have made that have penetrated my heart because of toxic thoughts.

•    I break every word curse I have thought or spoken over myself, including my body, my future, my intelligence.

•   In the name of Jesus Christ, I bind the works of the devil in my life, and I command every spirit working against my destiny to leave me now.  I command spirits of rejection, self-hate, unloving spirits, spirits of jealousy, and coveting spirits to leave me in Jesus' name.

•   I embrace the Spirit of Truth where I once believed lies.

In Jesus' name, Amen
