Consistency Will Break You Through: Don’t Give Up

Well, you did it! You completed another year – welcome to 2026! It is amazing to think that we are living in what used to be a sci-fi future: robots, AI, drones, computers the size of our hand, cameras the size of insects, tracking chips, and yes – even aliens!
Yet here we are with all this and more happening in our day. Welcome to the future. With technology advancing at the speed of light, most of us cannot keep up, it can become overwhelming. Being overwhelmed leads to weariness.
Don’t Get Tired of Doing Good
A famous man named Apostle Paul encouraged us by saying, So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. - Gal 6:9 NLT
Therefore, do NOT stop doing the thing you must do before you breakthrough. Whether “the thing” is prayer, fasting, worship, Bible reading, fellowship, work, writing, budgeting, or anything else that you need to breakthrough, you must do it consistently. Do it without reservation. Do it as if you are doing “the thing” for Jesus.
So many times, we get weary of doing a “thing,” and we give up. We start to think we will never get to the other side of the battle.
Maybe you are in debt, and God gave you a strategy to get free, but you blow it one week, then another, and before you know it, you throw all the restraints off and give up. The cycle repeats.
If we are going to break patterns and cycles of defeat that the enemy uses against us, then we are going to need a heart of consistency.
Why Consistency Matters
Consistency is an unchanging standard. Similar words for consistency are steady, stable, and constant. Set the standard as directed by the Lord and keep doing it until it becomes second nature.
The Apostle Paul knew what exhaustion and discouragement looked like. He said, We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; - 2Co 4:8 NKJV
Why did this man go through so much and not lose heart? But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. – 2 Cor 4:7 Paul knew in his strength he could not make it, but in Christ he was more than a conqueror.
This season, especially in January, I believe we need to rethink how we enter the new year. If you are like many people, you have your list, your resolutions, and your goals written down. Maybe you got a vision board to visualize your dreams (not recommended), perhaps a new journal or Bible with a commitment to read it through in a year (recommended), or maybe a new scale, gym membership, and workout clothes because this is the year you reach that weight goal.
Discover Your Pace; Rely on God’s Strength

While these may be great aspirations, if you do this every year only to be deflated before the end of January, you may want to think about why you can’t achieve the victory.
Apostle Paul also wrote, Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. - 1Co 9:24 NKJV
What is your running pace? Some of us are runners, some sprint and get winded quickly, some stroll, and some people keep a steady pace. What will help you accomplish the work of the Lord in your life, including the way you take care of your mind, body, and spirit? God knows. Ask Him.
Is there still sin in your life? According to Apostle Paul’s words again, sin is a weight and a snare. Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, - Heb 12:1 NASB95
We cannot run with something weighing us down or with sin entangling us. This word entangle means easily distracting, tightly controlling, constricting, or obstructing. Sin keeps us focused on it rather than on Jesus. Therefore, we must put it all aside if we are going to run into 2026 at a pace we can sustain.
Find What is Wearying You and Overcome
As you meditate on these passages of scriptures ask yourself what is making you weary? Look at
· Sin
· Relationships
· Your God time (worship, Bible reading, prayer)
· Your fellowship time (church, Bible study, serving)
· Your health - Is the condition of your soul making your body too sick to live out your life with enthusiasm?
· Finances – are you stewarding your money faithfully or are you in debt with no foreseeable way out?
· Faith – are you still in it?
After looking at these areas, address them with God and through the Spirit of Christ, you will get the answers He has to help you have victory in 2026.
Do things differently this year, because if it never worked in previous years, it likely won’t work this one either.
Let’s pray,
Heavenly Father, You are my hope. In Christ I am able. I can prevail, jumping over every high wall that has kept me barricaded in a place of defeat. I choose Your way this year. Help me to hear Your voice clearly and give me a heart of obedience. I want to shine in every area of my life this year so that I can proclaim Your goodness because You called me out of the darkness. In Jesus name, Amen

Amen! Well written and encouraging.
