A Dry and Thirsty Land

As a deer pants for water.....

A Dry and Thirsty Land

I have had many occasions of climbing a spiritual rugged mountain right after walking through a deserted desert filled with the heat of a scorching sun and believing that something good could come out of all this. In my life, I have faced many spiritual mountains and I suspect there will be many more in the future, however, I have this promise now that God says "Every valley shall be exalted And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough places smooth; The glory of the LORD shall be revealed, And all flesh shall see it together; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” Isaiah 40:4-5 NKJV

The rains will come and the rivers will rise but we always have a way to go that is straight and will lead to respite for our souls. Aha respite for my soul. What peace there is in the valleys when I keep my eyes stayed on Christ, what hope there is when my soul believes ever so quietly for the Rescuer to come! "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." Psalms 23:4 NKJV

Though we will surely come upon times of hardship we have a hope in Christ that says there will be times of refreshing as well. “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord," Acts 3:19. As I have learned of my great need to repent I have discovered that times of refreshing follow, I believe in part because my soul becomes empty of that which it laid hold of, I call it sin. Oh, yes when I release the sin that once beset me oh how the refreshing rivers flow from the precious Holy Spirit that is within me! He does so release a poetic flow of grace within me and adorns my spirit with love! Oh, how He sends the refreshing rains upon the dry and thirsty land, if we would only repent.

A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah. You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1
