Taking Down Demonic Constructs in Your Soul

For those of you who struggle to break out of negative thinking, this is for you. You have the power inside you to destroy every thought that does not bear life and to build ones that do.
A construct is an idea or theory containing concepts that are subjective and not based on real evidence. These are the lies in our minds—lies that become our truth because we focus on them for so long.
Pulling Down Strongholds
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds…”– 2 Corinthians 10:3–6 NKJV
Casting down means tearing down, dismantling, destroying, and dethroning. In secular Greek, it describes tearing down buildings and walls, vanquishing opponents, and dethroning rulers.
Arguments (logismos) are thoughts, reasoning, or false reasoning. Every unreasonable, illogical, invalid, deceptive, and crazy thought that enters our minds must be destroyed and replaced with God’s truth.
High things—supernatural powers and rogue thoughts—must be taken captive. They have no life in them. They only distract. We must handcuff these thoughts, arrest them, and replace them with God’s Word.
When both mind and will come into submission to Christ, we find ourselves in harmony with Him. This alignment is not just a goal—it is a way to live in the peace of God.
Understanding the Battle
Ephesians six outlines the armor we have in Christ: the salvation, Word of God, faith, and prayer. Satan also has weapons, and knowing them helps us battle effectively.
He targets your mind, body, will, and heart.
"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have [it] more abundantly. - Jhn 10:10
Steal – secretly, craftily, with cunning skill
Kill – slaughter with merciless violence
Destroy – cause destruction
Devour – swallow completely, sudden destruction
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. - 1Pe 5:8
Satan begins with accusations—often about God. “Did God really say?” He tries to diminish God’s Word by planting doubt.
Defense Against Lies
Your defense against lies is the very thing Satan tries to use against you: the Word of God.
Jesus responded to Satan with Scripture. Eve did not, because something in her heart was off. Paul warned believers about this same deception.
But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. – 2 Cor 11:3
Satan attacks the mind because if we think about something long enough, we will speak it and then act it out. We must take every thought captive.
Attacks on the Body
If Satan cannot deceive your mind, he will try to destroy your body. He wants you to suffer so you will question God’s care.
Your defense for your body is God’s grace.
Sickness and pain weaken us, and the enemy uses those moments to whisper lies: “God doesn’t love you.” “God doesn’t care.” “If He did, this wouldn’t happen.”
Job’s wife told him to “curse God and die”—whether out of frustration, grief, or Satan’s influence. The enemy will use anyone he can.
But Scripture reminds us:
Your body is God’s temple – 1 Corinthians 6:19–20
Your body is God’s tool – Romans 6:12–13
Your body is God’s treasury – 2 Corinthians 4:7
Job endured. He held onto God’s promises. Sometimes we suffer because of human frailty, inherited disease, the fallen world, or curses. But God’s grace is our defense.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:7–10
Praise God even in sickness. Worship. Stay in the Spirit. This invites His grace into your situation.
Defense for Your Will
Three wills operate on earth:
Your will
Other people’s will
Satan’s will
All three work against God’s will.
Your will – Romans 12:1–2
Other people’s will – 1 Peter 4:2
Satan’s will – John 8:44
God’s will – Ephesians 5:15–17
Satan wants you to be independent of God. Rebellion is simply disregarding God’s will.
David took a census even after being told not to. Perhaps he wanted glory. But Philippians 2:13 reminds us that God works in us to will and to do His good pleasure. Rebellion operating in us is a weapon for the enemy.
Your defense is the Holy Spirit working in you.
Accusation and Intercession
Accusation keeps you focused on the penalty instead of the pardon. It keeps you in bondage, especially in works, trying to earn forgiveness.
But Jesus intercedes for you.
Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. - Hebrews 7:25
One day the accuser will be cast down (Revelation 12:10). Until then, we must guard our hearts. Peter had to be sifted before he could strengthen others. Jesus prayed that his faith would not fail.
When You’re Under Attack
The next time the enemy attacks your mind, body, will, or heart, ask God:
“What do You want to develop in me through this?”
God uses every trial to demonstrate His love and faithfulness. He continues to bring every work to completion. He is the Author and Finisher of our faith.
Let's pray,
Heavenly Father, I understand that when I am weak, You are strong. But, I don't always rely on Your strength to break me free of harassing thoughts. I ask that Your Spirit would alert me to the reality of warfare when the enemy is playing the same tune in my head. Help me catch these thoughts and destroy them before they get to my heart. Thank You for the power in me that is greater than that of this world. In Jesus name, Amen
