Pursue His Holiness

Pursue peace with all [people], and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: Heb 12:14

Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if [there is any] wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. [Psa 139:23-24 NKJV]

There is a time for everything, a time to rejoice in freedom and a time to seek it. There’s a time to remain in the presence of His holiness and a time to repent and seek holiness. Sadly, most Christians are unaware of the season they are in or the times of the Lord. It is common to get caught up in the doing of life and lay down the drawing near to the Father.

God has given us His word and He promises to perform it. The LORD said to me, "You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled." {Jer 1:12 NIV}

When God speaks, He does. His word is a creator and He creates at a breath. God spoke holy directions to His people for a purpose, to keep us in right relationship with Him. God said, “Be holy, for I am holy,” yet we squint our eyes and yawn at the thought of being holy. He winks his eye to devise perverse things; He purses his lips [and] brings about evil. [Pro 16:30 NKJV]. We are missing the purpose of holiness and mocking our Father when we refuse to yield to His spoken word.

To be holy means to be set apart. God is not common and neither are His children. We are a peculiar people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation and called to release the praises of our King. Today the Church is struggling with an identity crisis and the pulpit possessors are failing to help people to identify with the Holy God who created instead of the unholy gods of this world who destroy. The world is evolving at an alarming rate. Evolve means to open, unfold, throw out and emit. The world is opening itself up to every philosophical, feel good imagination it can conjure up and in doing so it is emitting poison into every crack and crevice of God's creation and our children. The Church on the other hand, is called to cast down ALL vain imaginations and everything that would exalt itself against the knowledge of God (2 Cor 10:5). We are called to join Jesus in His endeavor to destroy the works of Satan. We are to grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ and His holiness in God, we are not to allow the world to saturate us with the filth of its ways.

God does not evolve just because man comes to think they know more than Him. God does not change and there is no shadow of turning in Him. God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow! Praise God that He is everlasting and never changing, this means we can always count on Him for consistency and faithfulness. Amen!

Apply Our Hearts to Know God

I applied my heart to know, To search and seek out wisdom and the reason [of things], To know the wickedness of folly, Even of foolishness [and] madness. [Ecc 7:25 NKJV].

When was the last time you applied your heart to know something? To know God and His word and to become wise by His standards not the worlds? The word applied in this context means to turn, turn back, or transform. In order for a person to be holy they must first know what holiness is and then turn their hearts in that direction. We must be a yielded and willing vessel to transform our thinking, our values, our mindsets, etc. When we do this “turn” we find ourselves in a humble position, this is where God can be found. The LORD is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous {Pro 15:29} and He is calling for a people who love Him so much they are willing to lay down their lives for His word. A people who would pick up their crosses and bare them as Jesus Christ did, a people who would know Christ in His sufferings. This is an extreme version of the gospel of Jesus but a truthful one none the less.

Surely He scorns the scornful, But gives grace to the humble. [Pro 3:34 ] . God will provide the grace to pursue holiness, it is in His strength that we have victory, not in our own for He is aware of the fact that we are but dust.

Awaken O People of God and Move in Pursuit of His Word

Today’s modern Christian has been duped into believing a very dangerous gospel, another Jesus so to speak and yet Apostle Paul who said “I may indeed be untrained as a speaker, but I do have knowledge. We have made this perfectly clear to you in every way. [2Co 11:6 NIV]” that …. if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. [2Co 11:4 NIV]

Instead of searching through God’s word to determine His truth on a subject many, yet even most Christians, determine that if it feels good and seems right in their own minds then it is acceptable. This is “another Jesus” and this thinking has led many a congregation into apostacy! Their thoughts are that once they said a “sinner’s prayer” they are free under grace to do whatever pleases them even though that mindset will clearly disqualify them from the rewards set before them and perhaps even causing them to toss their salvation away.

25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. [1Co 9:25-27 NIV]

The Searching Spirit

When we read the word with a heart that is searching for the Father and Judge we can find promise after promise of God turning towards those who seek Him with humility.

14 "if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 15 "Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer [made] in this place. {2Ch 7:14-15}

We must hear that God said His eyes and ears will be attentive to our prayers after we turn. God will hear, forgive and observe or regard with care and attention our prayers after we turn from sin. Before we turn from wickedness God does not pay attention to our prayers. We cannot ask God for something while our minds are on our own intentions. We are to "… seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. [Mat 6:33] Righteousness is the condition acceptable to God, it is the doctrine concerning the way in which we may attain approval through our integrity, virtue, purity of life and correct thinking, feeling and acting. There is the righteousness we obtain through Christ Jesus and this is the righteousness of our own moral convictions. These moral convictions motivated by the Spirit of God is what will take us into a holy lifestyle, anything outside of that will fail.

I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within my heart, And my spirit makes diligent search. [Psa 77:6]. Oh, how my heart longs for the presence of the Holy One, the Redeemer, the Rock and the Lover of my soul! To be in His presence and to be found amongst the redeemed of the Lord. We have a call to search for the Lord daily and a promise that when we do we will find Him and He will respond to us.

2 "This is what the LORD says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it--the LORD is his name: 3 'Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.' [Jer 33:2-3 NIV]

Again, a promise that God will hear and will answer and bring revelation. Jesus said in John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” Notice Jesus said He knows them? We know God because we know Jesus, we know Jesus because He knows us. We can find Him if we search for Him. God asks us to search for Him, to seek Him, to ask and to knock and He will respond. "But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find [Him] if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. [Deu 4:29 NKJV].

Too often we wait until trouble is knocking at our door before we knock on His, but with a true heart captivated by the Father this will change. When we rend our hearts towards God and seek Him diligently we will find Him. May He be found by you this day.
